How would you describe your vlog?
A creative interpretation of life love and family moments with a bunch of funny and cinematic stuff in the mix!
What inspired you to start vlogging?
My wife and I literally just wanted to create fun videos together to capture some of our favorite memories and it all stemmed from that. All these years later our reason for creating videos is still the same.
What do you love most about vlogging?
I love the fact that it allows me to be creative on a daily basis and call it a job! ( it took a long time to get to the point where I could actually call it a job ) Seriously how crazy is that? And what’s better is I get to do it with the people I love most
What is the biggest challenge with vlogging?
Editing long form content on super tight deadlines is a much bigger challenge than most people think and can be pretty stressful at times, especially when travelling!
What has been the most amazing experience you have had because of vlogging?
Definitely flying to Italy to Vlog with The Pope! That was an incredibly surreal experience
What is the weirdest thing you accidentally recorded while vlogging, do you have a link to the video?
Haha falling over while filming a bride and grooms first dance. That was a pretty embarrassing one but I don’t take myself too seriously and saw the humour in it. Luckily the couple did as well. Jimmy Fallon even made some jokes about it on his show.
Which of your vlogs went viral that you didn’t expect to?
A video about an awkward experience I had with a doctor not thinking my daughter was my kid. I thought it was a pretty boring video and came very close to not uploading it as I thought it was one of our most boring Vlogs we had ever done. The video ended up getting about 4 million views
What equipment do you use (camera, audio, lighting)?
Everything. That would be a pretty accurate answer for this. I use which ever camera works best to capture the particular moment which can range from a Sony A7r ii with a rode video mic pro stereo to a g7x mk ii, GoPro Herero 5 and even my iPhone at times. I also love to use drones
What software do you use to edit your vlogs?
Adobe Premiere Pro
What advice would you give to someone starting a vlog?
Don’t over think it and just do it! The hardest part is getting started. Too many say they want to do it but never do it. Even if your videos are really average in the beginning people will enjoy watching the journey as they get better. Our videos were really sucky when we first started but the more we created content the better we got. Also having a back catalog of videos is actually more important than having a viral video. Our first youtube video went viral but it didn’t really get us subscribers because we had no other videos for people to watch and people don’t subscribe to empty channels just like you wouldn’t follow an instagram account with only one photo. It wasn’t until a year later when we had another big video that we really noticed a big jump in subscribers and a big part of that is because people went back and watched the older content when they viewed that video.
