Jake Bley Australian Youtuber Vidcon

How would you describe your vlog?

It’s a little slice of me. My thoughts, stories about my life, travels, making fun of myself, and talking about things I’m passionate about.

What inspired you to start vlogging?

I started to make friends with people who loved it and thought, maybe I can do it too! I had a travel blog (that’s still out there if you search for it), and my first videos were me trying to document my time overseas. Warning: they’re no good. Haha!

What do you love most about vlogging?

The absolute best thing is hearing from people who watch my videos. It makes all the hard work worth it. If I can help or inspire someone with what I say, I can’t ask for anything more than that.

What is the biggest challenge with vlogging?

TIME. I have very little time as I work full-time (in social media, actually!), and it can be hard to maintain a social life, work and shoot/edit/roll out my own videos. It’s exhausting!

What has been the most amazing experience you have had because of vlogging?

I think VidCon 2014 was the most amazing experience for me. I went for the first time, made so many friends, and had so many other creators come up to me and say how much they love my videos. It filled my heart!

What is the weirdest thing you accidentally recorded while vlogging, do you have a link to the video?

Oh god. I don’t think there’s anything too crazy that’s popped up. I have had some really fun adventures though. You can watch my Euro-trip videos here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9Wfkpqi9QfjWc1EXJQNzT1eNBPE-MtCr

Which of your vlogs went viral that you didn’t expect to?

We did a little prank at VidCon in 2014, pretending to be JacksGap and it went wild! I had so much fun making it with Davey Wavey.

What equipment do you use (camera, audio, lighting)?

I have a Canon G7X that I use to blog with and it’s great! I also have some cheap lights I got on eBay. Nothing special!

What software do you use to edit your vlogs?

I’m literally the worst when not comes to editing. I used iMovie up until like a year ago (it comes with your MacBook when you buy it). But now I use Final Cut Pro.

What advice would you give to someone starting a vlog?

Just have fun with it, and make friends. It’s the best part.
